Suite
Melissa is an exciting new piece for band. Commissioned by the Del
Mar High School Symphonic Band, San Jose, California. This work is
dedicated to the memory of Melissa Garcia, a member of the Del Mar High
School Music Department.
The
first movement marked "Allegro" opens with exciting woodwind
flourishes and fanfare-like statements from the brass declaring a
celebration is to ensue. This soon turns to a playful melody derived
from the rhythm of Melissa's name.
The
second movement is a eulogy upon this young lady's life that brought so
much joy and pleasure to her family and friends. The last movement is a
Spanish march. The "Flamenco" style is very much evident in
the rhythm and melodies of this section. It is playful, energetic and
exciting!
