Suite
for a New Day

Commissioned by the Chico High School Symphonic Band, this
work is dedicated
to their director and long time friend, Mr. Karol Forrest.
The first movement marked "Furioso" depicts such emotions as
rage and
fury, with dissonant sounds that keep reoccurring. This soon turns to
laughter
with intermittent suggestions of humility. With varied rhythms, and
Spanish
flavored melodies this section presents some challenges for the more
advanced
musician. The second movement called "First Love" is a Ballad
and features a solo
trumpet. The harmonies are lush and full of passion. The last movement
entitled "Jubilation" and marked Vivace calls upon the
virtuosity of the woodwinds,
and power from all the brass. Each section of the band gets a chance to
shine.
This piece is suitable for Concert or Festival
