The piece opens with
a flute solo evocative of eastern music but quickly gives way to a lush
impressionistic style; at times the listener is thinking "Debussy, here,
Stravinsky there. The
first movement entitled "The charms of the Beloved" is a
tone poem using wonderful variety of colors to achieve a mystic effect. The second movement, "Loves’ search," is a Vivace in
6/8 full of life and energy, and still
in the impressionistic style. This piece presents some challenges to the
young musician, but when learned, this should be a joy to play and a chance to
reflect exuberance in music. This
piece is suitable for concert
or festival.
