Españolita

"The Little Spanish Girl"

By

Leonard Duarte

Españolita contains the flavor and exuberance of Spanish dance. It is an impression of a young flamenco dancer. The main theme is stated in the introduction with castanets and tambourine maintaining the "Flamenco" style. The song demonstrates a brisk and precise style with contrasting dynamics and changes in staccato and legato articulations. The alto sax solo is presented as an imitation of a flamenco singer. The D.S. al Coda begins allegro and gradually increases in speed at the Coda. The piece ends Presto with the last two chords played very short and fortissimo.
