Mariachi is a march written in the style and flavor of the Mexican
band called "Mariachi." The music of the Mariachi is
multifaceted in style according to the region of Mexico it is
describing. It is polyrhythmic but harmonically simple. The three styles
depicted here are "Huapango" from Vera Cruz, "Charras,"
from Jalisco, and "Norteñas" from Chihuahua. The march, of
course, is more appropriate for dancing rather than marching, but the
melody is energetic and joyful. This is music of the heart with the
intent of putting a smile on your face and getting your toes tapping. At
times we even hear a "Charro" yell or two from an enthusiastic
audience!
