Cece’s Song was commissioned by CMEA North section Jr.
High Honor band,
Dr. Allan Miller conductor. It was written to honor my youngest
granddaughter,
Cecelia Esther Duarte.
The composition is written in three short movements depicting certain
facets of Cece’s personality. The opening movement has a whimsical,
lighthearted
style. Marked Allegro, there is much interplay between woodwinds and
brass and
between solos and full ensemble. The second movement marked Andante is
a hymn
with rich sonorous harmonies and simple melodic content. The last
movement
moves at a fast tempo. It has an exulting and triumphant style with
serene
sections played by the woodwinds in their lowest range. The piece ends
with
contrasting dramatic statements from the various sections of the band.
